Volleyball (Girls)

  • The season ended Monday for the Chargers girls volleyball team with a hard-fought 25-20, 25-20 loss to Guerin Prep in the Guerin regional. Julee Paradee keyed the Chargers offense with her serving prowess, while Jazlyn Harper led the defense with superb digs and great hits out of the back row.

The Chargers JV team dropped a tight three-game match to St Francis De Sales by scores of 20-25, 25-23 and 23-25 in a tournament Saturday at DePaul Prep. The team also lost its other two matches, to Regina by scores of 25-7 and 25-3, and to Resurrection, 25-12 and 25-7.

The Chargers varsity girls volleyball team tried mightily on senior night Thursday but came up short in a match against Proviso West, losing by scores of 25-15 and 25-21. The squad would like to thank the JV team for the gifts, decorations and a great send-off, as well as to thank all our classmates who donated to our breast cancer awareness fundraiser. Your generosity is very much appreciated. Finally, a thanks goes out to all those who came out to our games this season. Go Chargers!

Senior night for the Charger girls volleyball team will be held tonight (Oct. 24). Seniors on the squad will be recognized between the JV contest, which begins at 5 p.m., and the varsity tilt, which is expected to start just after 6 p.m. Playing in their final home game are Marissa Pankoff, Mariah Smith, Taylor Griggs, Bria Pillow, Dana Luczak, Jazlyn Harper, Julee Paradee, Lucia Gonzalez, Sucel Contreras and Amilia Daniels.

Guerin Prep proved too much to handle for the Chargers girls volleyball squads, with the varsity team losing 25-11 and 25-17 despite a strong serving performance by Marissa Pankoff in the first game and the all-round defensive effort by Julee Paradee, who was thrust into a new position as middle blocker for an ailing Sucel Contreras. The JV team also was swept, falling by scores of 25-21 and 25-14.
